Vent: My friend swore by dried beans but I thought canned were fine
She gave me a bag of pintos and said to try them, cost me about $1.20. Cooked a big batch in my slow cooker last weekend and the flavor was way better, plus I got like three meals out of it. Anyone else switch from canned to dried and actually notice a difference?

Honestly, that part about the flavor being way better is what convinced me to switch. I read canned beans have way more sodium.

Totally agree @nancy_garcia63, after I started making my own refried beans from dried pintos I couldn't go back to canned. The texture is way better too, not that weird slimy paste. Plus you can control the salt yourself, which is huge for me since my blood pressure's borderline.

My aunt used to make this killer bean dip from scratch. She'd simmer dried pintos for hours with a ham hock. The smell filled her whole apartment. Canned refried beans taste like salty paste in comparison, no contest.
