Thinking about how I used to avoid lentils because they seemed boring.
Now they're my go-to for filling, dirt-cheap meals.

Lentils being life-changing feels like a stretch, just basic food. Then again @the_charles seems easily impressed by cheap staples. Maybe it's just me but food doesn't need to be that deep.

Define what you mean by basic food though. Is it just about taste, or does how it keeps you fed during rough times not count? Seems like calling something "basic" ignores all the ways simple ingredients actually matter to people.
