That time I bought a $40 bag of 'gourmet' lentils from a farmers market

They tasted exactly like the $1.50 bag from the store, just with fancier packaging. Has anyone else fallen for a pretty label on a budget staple?

Fancy packaging on a budget staple." Yeah that's the whole business model right there. You paid for the story not the lentil.

The "story" part gets me though. Nobody talks about how these companies are literally paying influencers to stage their kitchens with the product. I saw one ad where they had the lentils in these ceramic jars with twine around them like it's some heirloom recipe. Meanwhile the actual bag of lentils is shoved in the back of the pantry. The packaging is just a prop for a photo. The real cost is the marketing budget to make you feel like you're buying into a lifestyle, not a pantry item.
