That $2 can of beans my uncle swore by actually saved dinner
My uncle Bob told me last month to keep canned beans as a backup for any meal, and I laughed it off until I had 20 minutes to feed four people with almost nothing in the fridge. I threw together a quick chili with a $1.29 can of pinto beans, some old rice, and a half onion, and it beat most of the takeout I've ordered in the past year. Anyone else got a cheap pantry staple they ignored for ages but now swear by?

Weren't you the same person who swore by fresh everything just last year? Because I remember arguing with my cousin about how canned veggies were "lazy cooking" until I made a proper cassoulet with canned white beans and canned tomatoes that took the whole family by surprise. So tell me, did Uncle Bob also get you to try that weird trick of adding a splash of vinegar to canned beans to cut the tin taste, or was that just his other random wisdom you ignored? Because I want to know if this is a one-hit wonder or if he's got a whole system of cheap pantry hacks you're sitting on.
