Pro tip: My grandma's 'use less meat' advice actually worked for 3 years straight
Tbh my grandma told me back in 2020 to stretch ground beef by mixing in grated potatoes and shredded carrots. I thought she was just being old-school cheap. But after a year of doing it I realized I was saving like $12 a week on meat alone. The trick is to grate the potato fine so it blends in and nobody notices. We did this for about 3 years until my wife finally caught on and laughed about it. Has anyone else got old family tricks that actually cut grocery costs?

Yeah that grated potato trick is solid. My grandma did something similar but with breadcrumbs and an egg in meatloaf stretched it way further than you'd expect. She'd always say "a little helps a lot" and it really did. I started adding cooked lentils to ground beef for tacos and my kids didn't even notice the difference for months. The trick is to season heavy and hide the texture by mashing the lentils up good first. Ended up cutting our grocery bill by a solid chunk without anyone complaining about the food.
