My coworker laughed when I brought lentil soup for lunch 5 days in a row, then asked for my recipe after he saw my grocery bill was $23 for the whole week

He stood there smirking with his $12 sandwich from the deli until I showed him the receipt for 2 bags of lentils, a bag of carrots, and some onions from Aldi that made 8 servings total, and now I'm wondering how many other people are blowing their budget on lunch because they think cheap food has to taste bad, has anyone else converted a lunch snob?

Tell him to keep watching his wallet bleed dry while you're banking the difference. I did the same thing with a coworker who spent $60 a week on takeout and now he brings a container of my chili recipe every Tuesday. Most people don't realize a slow cooker can turn a bag of dried beans and some spices into a week of lunches for less than the price of one fast food run. The trick is to season aggressively and batch cook on Sunday so you're not eating plain lentils by Thursday. If he really wants the recipe, hand him a sticky note with "1 cup lentils, 3 cups water, salt, garlic powder, cook 25 minutes" and watch him realize it's that simple.

The real win is he'll probably drink less now that he's not washing down expensive sadness with $8 beers.
