Just realized my grocery bill dropped $180 a month after I started shopping at the Latino market instead of Kroger
I used to spend around $520 a month feeding me and my two kids, and I honestly thought that was just what food cost. Then back in March my neighbor Rosa dragged me to the market on 5th Street and I about fell over at the prices, chicken thighs were $1.29 a pound and the produce was half what I paid before. Six months later I'm at about $340 a month and we're actually eating better, more fresh stuff and less boxed junk. The only thing I miss is the one stop convenience, now I hit two stores instead of one. Anyone else split their shopping between stores to save money, or do you just eat the cost for one trip?
That line about missing the one stop convenience is the part people always get hung up on, and I get it, but you're looking at it wrong. You said yourself you're hitting two stores now, but what you didn't say is how much time you're actually losing. Rosa probably already showed you which market days have the best markdowns, so you can knock out the produce and meat run in one trip and still hit Kroger for the boxed stuff you can't get elsewhere. Throw in a chest freezer if you don't have one and you can buy chicken thighs in bulk when they're $1.29, which kills the second trip most weeks. The savings you're seeing now is just the start once you stop treating both stores as equal stops and make one the main run and the other the quick fill in.
