Just realized I've been wasting money on expensive pasta sauce for years

Had a chat with my neighbor Frank last weekend, a 70 year old Italian guy who cooks for his whole block, and he basically laughed at me for buying $6 jars when a $1 can of crushed tomatoes plus a clove of garlic and some dried basil tastes exactly the same if you let it simmer for 20 minutes, now I'm sitting here wondering how much cash I've thrown away on fancy labels, has anyone else tried making their own sauce and found it saved them a ton?

Nah, that canned stuff has way too much sugar and salt for my taste.

Oh man, I totally used to think homemade sauce was way too much effort for everyday meals. But I tried it after a similar talk with an older neighbor and now I won't go back to the jarred stuff either. The cost savings are just too good to ignore once you get the hang of it.
