I finally stopped buying pre-shredded cheese after a tough week in Phoenix

I always grabbed the bags because they were cheaper per ounce at my local Fry's, but last month I kept noticing my tacos were coming out clumpy and oily. After reading on here that the anti-caking stuff affects melting and texture, I bought a block of cheddar on clearance for $2.50 and grated it myself. Has anyone else found that block cheese actually lasts longer in the fridge even though it takes more prep?

$2.50 for a block of cheddar is wild, I paid almost $4 for mine last week at Safeway. Does that mean I need to start hitting up Fry's clearance section? @mark611 I noticed my block cheddar had zero of that weird slime you get from bags after a few days, just stayed solid and dry on the cut edge. The grating cleanup is annoying but I'm never going back after seeing how much better it melts on my nachos.

The blocks always feel less slimy somehow.
