Appreciation post: I spent $27 on groceries for a full week of dinners
I added up my grocery receipt from Sunday and it came to exactly $27. I got a whole chicken, a bag of potatoes, a bag of carrots, and a big bag of rice. I roasted the chicken for one meal, used the leftover meat for chicken and rice bowls, and boiled the bones for soup with the veggies. Has anyone else hit a surprisingly low weekly food budget lately? I'd love to hear what you're making.

How are you even finding a whole chicken for less than a mortgage payment? I mean, my grocery store sells those for like $15 alone, so you must have some magic coupons or something.

Tell me about it, I saw a price tag on a basic chicken last week and almost laughed out loud. My local store wants sixteen bucks for the smallest one they have. It feels like you need a second job just to afford a simple dinner these days. I remember when those things were a cheap and easy meal, not a luxury item. The price jumps every single time I go shopping, it's insane.

Oh man, tell me about it! I literally stood in the meat aisle last week staring at a chicken like it was a rare artifact. Fifteen bucks is the starting price around here too, and half the time it's one of those tiny ones that barely feeds two people. I remember when you could grab a whole chicken for like five or six bucks and make it stretch for days. Now it feels like you need to take out a small loan just to roast a bird for Sunday dinner. The whole thing is just ridiculous, I swear prices go up every single time I walk in the store.
