Vent: Phone repair shop in Austin quoted me $240 for a battery swap I did for $18
Last Tuesday my Pixel 5 battery started swelling, screen popped right off the frame. Took it to a shop near Riverside, they said $240 parts and labor, 2 day wait. Grabbed a $18 kit off Amazon with the adhesive strips and suction cup, watched a 12 minute video, did it in my kitchen in 40 minutes. Phone works fine, battery holds all day. I get they have overhead but that price felt like robbery. Has anyone else had a shop quote that made you just try it yourself?
Man, $240 for a battery swap is the kind of quote that turns people into DIYers real quick.
Sure, shops got rent and guys gotta eat, but at that price I'd rather risk my kitchen counter over their waiting room.
Forty minutes and eighteen bucks later, you basically paid yourself $333 an hour, so who's really the robber here?
