Vent: my phone slipped off the bathroom counter and the screen spiderwebbed before I even picked it up
Happened Tuesday morning, about 6:40, when I bumped the phone reaching for a towel and it landed face down on tile. The screen still lit up fine underneath the cracks, so I ordered a $28 screen kit and a set of plastic pry tools instead of paying the shop down the street $120. Got the old screen off after about 40 minutes of heat gun work, but the digitizer ribbon connector is tiny and I nearly snapped it lifting it out. Now it boots and the touch works, but the left edge of the screen is dead to swipes, so something in that connector is not seated right. Anybody got a tip for getting those ribbon connectors to seat flat without wrecking the pins?
Honestly the $120 shop price was probably the smarter move here. Doing a heat gun job on a phone at home is how you end up with a cracked back glass and a dead left edge, which is exactly where you are now. Those ribbon connectors are press-fit with almost no room for error, and most of them want a steady hand and the right jig, not plastic pry tools and hope. You may have saved ninety bucks but you traded it for a half working phone and a connector that might be closer to broken than you think. Paying someone who does this daily is not a waste of money when the part is that small and that easy to wreck.
