TIL about using a hairdryer to fix a stuck phone charging port

I was at my buddy's shop in Detroit last week and he pulled out a regular hairdryer to fix a phone that wouldn't charge. Turned out the port had moisture inside it from a pocket in the rain. He hit it on low heat for like 2 minutes and boom, it started charging again. Has anyone else tried that trick for water damage or is it just a lucky break?

Nah, it's not about moisture, the hairdryer trick actually works for lint too... the heat loosens up the compressed dust and then you can blow it out or pick it clean.

Hairdryer on a phone? That sounds crazy enough to work but also sounds like a quick way to melt something inside. Was he holding it like 2 feet away or just blasting it right up against the port? I gotta admit, getting moisture out with heat makes sense in theory but I'd be terrified of frying the battery or warping the case. Props to your friend for being brave enough to try that in front of you.
