The heat gun trick for stripping phone back glass is overrated
I keep seeing people online say to use a heat gun on iPhone backs for 2 minutes to pop the glass off. Tried that on my iPhone XR last week and cracked the rear glass in 3 separate places before I even got a tool near it. Ended up using a hot plate set to 80 degrees Celsius and leaving it for 5 minutes instead, glass came off clean with zero damage. Has anyone else found heat guns just blast too much heat in one spot?

Burned my fingers so bad I looked like I tried to catch a falling welding torch.

Heat gun fried my XR too, hot plate at 85C for 6 minutes worked perfect.

Not sure I'd recommend a heat gun for that though, it gets way too hot way too fast and you can't control the temp as well as with a hot plate. 85C sounds low but I've had better luck at 100C for a full 10 minutes to really loosen up the adhesive under the display. But hey, if it works for you then that's what matters.
