Screen replacement tip: hair dryer beats the $60 heat gun i bought, and it is not even close
Bought a Weller heat gun off Amazon for $58 thinking it would make phone screens pop off easy. First iPhone 12 I tried it on, the heat was so wide and hot it cooked the digitizer cable right off the board. $90 screen down the drain. Next phone I just used my wife's Revlon hair dryer on high, held it about 3 inches away for 90 seconds, and the adhesive let go clean with the suction cup. Did 4 more phones this way, zero damage. The heat gun now sits in my garage for shrink tubing only. Anyone else get better results with a cheap hair dryer than the fancy tool? Or am I just holding the gun wrong?
