My laptop screen went yellow overnight, what the heck happened

I left my Dell on my nightstand in Tucson, closed it fine, and woke up to a yellow tint on the whole display. No drops, no spills, nothing touched it. I tried resetting the display drivers and messing with the color profiles but it's still warm and dull. Could this be a ribbon cable issue or is the panel itself dying? Has anyone else seen a screen change that suddenly without any physical damage?

...which is exactly what happened to my old ThinkPad in Phoenix one summer, except it turned pink. Turned out a gecko had crawled in through the vent and fried itself on the backlight circuit, leaving the screen that lovely shade of Pepto Bismol for a week until I blew it out with canned air. So yeah, maybe check for dead lizards before you go buying a new panel.
