I finally got schooled by a 12 year old on my laptop repair method
So yesterday I'm trying to swap out a cracked screen on my old ThinkPad T480 (you know, the one with that annoying adhesive strip). I had my heat gun on high and was prying away like normal when my neighbor's kid, maybe 12 years old, wandered over and asked what I was doing. He said “you're gonna crack the LCD if you keep bending it like that.” I laughed it off but then he showed me a YouTube video on his phone of some guy using a guitar pick and isopropyl alcohol to loosen the glue instead. I tried his way and the whole screen popped off in like 2 minutes without any damage. Now I feel like I've been doing this wrong for 3 years straight, all because I never thought to look up the new tricks. Has anyone else had their method completely wrecked by some random kid or new video? What else have I been missing on these older laptops?

Haha oh man that's too funny! My buddy Dave had something similar happen with his old Dell. He was using like a flathead screwdriver to pry the battery connector off the motherboard and this kid from down the street was like "dude those things break if you don't wiggle them from the side." Dave almost ignored him but the kid actually pulled up some forum post showing the exact right way to release those clips. He felt pretty dumb but it saved him from cracking his board.
