Fixed my Switch myself after Nintendo wanted $150

My Switch got the black screen of death last month and Nintendo quoted me $150 to fix it. I watched a couple YouTube videos and figured it was just a loose ribbon cable inside. Took me 20 minutes with a $5 screwdriver kit and it booted right up! Has anyone else had luck fixing their own console instead of sending it in?

Dude yes, the $150 quote is insane. I had the same thing happen with my Switch last year, black screen out of nowhere. Nintendo wanted like $130 plus shipping and I was like no way. I watched that one YouTube video where the guy just pries the back off and unplugs the battery for 30 seconds. Did that, plugged it back in, and bam it worked perfectly. It's wild how many of these fixes are just a loose ribbon cable or a hard reset that they try to charge you a fortune for. I've also fixed my joycon drift with a $10 kit from Amazon, it took me maybe 15 minutes and now they work like new. These companies really count on people being too scared to open their stuff.

Holy crap, $130 is still insane for something that literally takes a butter knife and five minutes of your time. Ngl, that battery trick is the first thing I tell anyone who has a Switch issue now. These companies know exactly what they're doing, they bank on people thinking "oh it's broken, I need a pro" and then they just do a hard reset you could do at home. Tbh I'm convinced half their repair costs are just for someone to Google the problem and try that stuff before they even touch it. It makes me so mad how they try to scare people into paying for nothing.
