Why does nobody talk about the $7 greeting card habit that quietly drains people
I was standing in line at the pharmacy on Saturday and the guy ahead of me bought four cards for $21 and grumbled the whole way out. That got me thinking about my own card spending, so I added up what I blew on birthdays, thank you notes, and holidays over the past year. It came to $186, which is real money for pieces of paper people mostly toss in the trash. Now I keep a stack of blank cards from the craft store, 50 for $10, and write my own note inside. Same personal touch, way less cash, and nobody has ever noticed the difference. Has anyone else cut a small repeating cost like this and been surprised how fast it added up?
My wife hit $200 on cards last year, and I didn't believe it until she showed me the receipts from CVS and Target. Those $5.99 and $7.99 cards add up fast when you buy 3 or 4 at a time. We switched to a 50 pack of blanks for $12, and honestly half the time I just write a note on the back of a receipt or a scrap of paper now. Nobody has ever said a word about it.
