Shoutout to the $47 spreadsheet that changed my grocery game in 4 weeks

I used to roll my eyes at every budgeting app and 'cash envelope' video until I grabbed a basic Google Sheets template off a random Reddit comment. Tracked every single food purchase for a month, from the $6 coffee by my office in Nashville to the $22 panic pizza on a Sunday. The before and after numbers were brutal. I was dropping like $480 a month on food alone, no clue where it went. After 4 weeks of just writing down amounts and categories, I cut it to $310 without clipping a single coupon or meal prepping like a robot. The act of typing it in made me pause before checkout. Anyone else find that plain tracking works better than all the fancy apps with their charts and streaks?

Noticed the same thing with my savings account, once I started manually typing every transfer into a notes app I stopped impulse buying so much. There's something about seeing the number change in real time that hits different than an app doing it for you, like your brain finally connects the dots. Kind of makes you wonder how many other things we'd fix just by paying raw attention to them.
