My neighbor keeps saying her $8 latte is why she's broke and it drives me up a wall
I sat down with her kitchen table budget for two hours on Sunday and the coffee came out to about $160 a month. Cool, sure, that's real money. But she's paying $1,850 a month on a car note plus full coverage on a car worth maybe $9 grand, and that's over $400 a month more than she needs to be spending. I'm not saying the latte is free, I'm saying she's mad at the $160 while the $400 sits there untouched and boring. Every single time someone posts a no-coffee challenge online it gets a million likes but nobody wants to post about calling their lender and asking for a lower rate. I know this because I did the boring thing myself back in March, refinanced at 6.2 instead of 9.1 and saved $212 a month without giving up a single drink. So when she tells me she's cutting coffee again I just nod. What actually moved the needle for you guys, the small daily cuts or the big ugly bills nobody wants to look at?
