My coworker bragged about paying off $30k in credit cards and I wanted to scream

She told me at lunch last Tuesday that she just used a balance transfer to a 0% card and paid minimums for 3 years. But she lives rent free in her parents basement and drives a car they bought her. Here I am working 50 hour weeks to pay down $8k in debt while also covering my own rent in Austin. Has anyone else had someone make their debt payoff sound easy when they had major help?

Fair's fair though - she's using what she's got. Plenty of people would kill to have parents who let them live rent free, but that's not her fault. She made a plan and stuck to it for three years. Sounds like she played the cards she was dealt better than most.

Yeah I get what @ryanhayes is saying but there's something about the 0% balance transfer that feels like the real trick here. Like she basically got to borrow money for free because she had no other expenses, which most people can't do when rent eats half their paycheck. It's not really paying off debt if the only reason it worked is that someone else covered all your living costs.
