Why is everyone running clean joints with wet mortar these days?

I was on a site in Raleigh last Thursday watching a crew set a long garden wall and every single joint they struck just smeared into a mess because the mortar was way too wet to hold a clean line. The finish looked like a 3 year old did it and they were already 20 feet past before it dried enough to fix. Have you guys had to go back and repoint whole sections for guys who rush the mix?

You ever notice how everyone seems to be in too big a hurry to do things right these days? It's like they think wet mortar will speed them up, but it just makes a bigger mess later.

You gotta wonder @terry1, does nobody learn from their mistakes anymore? I see it all the time, people rushing through stuff just to get it done. Then they come back later and have to fix the whole mess. Takes twice as long in the end. It's like they think shortcuts will save them time but they just make more work for themselves. I feel you on this one, it's frustrating to watch.
