TIL my crew lays 30% faster with cheap plastic line blocks instead of corner poles, and the old guys hate hearing it
Two springs back I had to pick between keeping our two battered corner poles or buying four sets of plastic line blocks for $38 total. My lead mason pushed hard for the poles because that is how he came up in the 80s, but I went with the blocks anyway. First week on a garage in Toledo we set 900 brick a day per man, up from around 700, because nobody has to walk back and re-tie the line. The old guys still say poles give a truer corner, and honestly on long runs over 40 feet they might have a point. But for everyday walls under two stories the blocks win and I am not going back. Anyone here run both and got a real number to compare, or am I just fooling myself?
