Swore by string lines until a foreman's slip made me rethink

I always thought string lines were the only real way to keep a wall straight. Then our foreman caught his boot on mine and dumped a full cup of coffee onto the blueprints. It was pretty awkward watching him blot the sheets with his sleeve. I finally borrowed a laser level the next day, and it just works better. Guess I was wrong about the old way.

Hold up, lasers fail when the battery dies or in bright sun. A string line is just nylon and two nails, it works every single time. You also feel the line vibrate if your block is off, which you miss with a light on the wall.

Seems like making a mountain out of a molehill.

Yeah that's the worst, when something simple goes wrong and makes you switch tools. Been there for sure.
