Starting my mortar board on the inside face of the block instead of the trowel edge
About a month ago I was laying a garden wall out in Fresno and my foreman kept telling me my joints were starving on the far side. I got tired of picking up half dried mortar off the ground so I tried something different, I started cutting the board on the inside face first, then dragging it out to the edge in one motion. My head joints stopped sucking air and I quit losing about a quarter bag per course to droppings. Took me three courses to get the wrist motion right but now it just happens. Anyone else learned it this way or am I the only one who was doing it backwards for two decades?
