Saw a crew in Denver butter their joints before laying and I think they're wasting their time
Was walking past a job site near Federal Blvd last Tuesday and watched these guys take a brush and paint mortar onto every single brick before setting it. I get that some masons swear by it for bond strength, but on a standard 8 inch wall with type N mortar it just slows you down and makes a mess. My old boss would have fired me on the spot if he caught me doing that on a production run. We hit 900 brick a day on that same kind of wall without it. Anybody here sticking with the buttering method or did you drop it like I did?
