Last Tuesday was the worst day I've had on a jobsite in 5 years

I was building a retaining wall out near Bristol and the mortar kept drying way too fast. The temp was around 95 and I didnt think to shade my mix before I started. By noon I had to redo a whole 8 foot section because the bond was weak. Has anyone else had a day where everything just fought back like that?

...and then the zebra slab thing reminded me of this time I was laying brick for a planter box and a wasp nest I didn't see got disturbed. I had wasps dive-bombing my face for a solid twenty minutes while trying to keep the mortar from setting up in the sun. Ended up with a welt on my ear and a crooked corner I had to chisel out the next day. At least your buddy's slab had character, mine just looked like I gave up.

You ever have a buddy who just can't catch a break? My friend Rick was pouring a concrete slab last summer and his mixer broke down halfway through. He had to hand mix the rest with a shovel in 90 degree heat. Took him twice as long and the slab ended up with these weird color lines. He said it looked like a zebra.
