Appreciation post: Tried to mix mortar with a paint mixer on a drill for a small garden wall job. It looked like a volcano erupted in my yard.

Paint mixers get a bad rap. A low speed setting and a half-full bucket can actually work fine for small batches. The key is adding the water slowly, not all at once. It's a decent shortcut if you don't own a proper mortar hoe.

Wait, you used a HALF-FULL bucket? That's the part that gets me! Even on low speed, that's asking for a disaster. You need it way less than half, like a quarter full at most, or yeah, it's going to fly everywhere. I'm shocked it even sort of worked for you.
