TIL you should flip the breaker BEFORE you touch the wires, and my $40 ceiling fan install taught me the hard way
Bought a $40 ceiling fan at a ReStore in Dallas last Saturday and figured I could swap it in under an hour. Watched one video where the guy just shut off the wall switch, so I did the same and started yanking the old fan down. Grabbed the white wire and got a jolt that threw my arm back into the ladder. Turns out the switch only killed the light, not the fan motor, and the previous owner had wired it weird in 1998. Anyone else run into a switch that only does half the job?
