My buddy in Detroit swore you need a torque wrench for bike brakes, and after 3 stripped bolts I stopped arguing
He watched me crank down the caliper bolts on my old Trek with a regular hex key, just guessing at tightness. Two weeks later the rear brake started rubbing and I snapped a bolt trying to fix it. A $40 beam torque wrench and a printed spec sheet would have saved me the $65 replacement caliper. Anyone else think "just feel it" is bad advice for small parts?
Its the same story everywhere, people skip the manual and just guess, then act shocked when stuff breaks. For small bolts especially, hand tight plus a quarter turn is how you end up at the hardware store looking for a thread repair kit.
