TIL my fern was turning yellow because I was watering it wrong
A guy at the local nursery told me I was drowning my Boston fern by watering it every day instead of letting the soil dry out between drinks. I switched to twice a week and it's perked right up in just 10 days - anyone else overwatered a plant before realizing less is more?

Most people treat things like they need constant attention when really they just need the right conditions. It's like how new plant owners tend to over-love their plants to death, same with people who micromanage their friends or coworkers. Figuring out what actually needs your input versus what just needs space is a lesson that applies to way more than just houseplants.

Oh man, I am totally guilty of over-loving things to death lmao. I once bought a succulent - you know, the ones that basically survive on neglect - and I watered it every single day because I thought it looked thirsty. Spoiler alert: it rotted within two weeks. I still feel bad about that little guy. Really taught me that sometimes the best thing you can do is just back off and let stuff figure itself out.
