Remember when we all thought you needed a greenhouse for orchids?

My Phalaenopsis kept dropping buds in my dry apartment until I put its pot on a tray of wet pebbles. That little bit of humidity from the evaporating water made it bloom for six months straight. Anyone else find a simple fix that saved a fussy plant?

That pebble tray trick is a classic. Did you ever try grouping plants together to make a little humidity zone? My ferns and calatheas really perked up when I stopped spacing them out. It's like they create their own tiny climate.

My calathea was crispy until I moved it right next to my shower. The steam from my morning shower gives it a perfect humidity boost.

My friend Sarah tried the pebble tray thing for her calathea... she had three of them lined up on a tray of wet pebbles for months and they still looked sad. Then she moved one into her bathroom right next to the shower and within two weeks the leaves were all uncurling and looking happy again. She was so excited she took a picture and sent it to me with like fifteen exclamation points... now she keeps a little humidity gauge in there and swears by the steam method over everything else.
