My uncle pointed at a weed in his lawn and told me it was a better pollinator plant than anything at the garden center
Visited my uncle's place outside Athens, Ohio last weekend and we got to talking about his lawn, which he mostly leaves alone. He bent down and showed me a violet wood sorrel growing right in the grass and mentioned he counts 14 different volunteer plants back there that feed bees and butterflies all spring. He hasn't bought a flat of annuals in 3 years and his yard is buzzing way louder than mine ever gets. I've been yanking half of what he pointed at. So how do you all figure out which volunteers in your yard are worth keeping?

Whoa, your uncle is onto something. I stopped pulling anything with a flower on it and my yard went nuts with bees by June. Violets, clover, dandelions, even that wild garlic stuff, the bees hit all of it way before my mums do. Easy way to tell: if it blooms early and bugs land on it, leave it, if it's just grass and nothing visits, yank it.
