My spider plant was a total drama queen until I tried the 'beer trick'

The tips kept browning no matter how much I watered it, so I gave up and poured maybe two ounces of flat lager into the soil as a joke. A week later, it had five new shoots and looked greener than ever. Turns out the yeast gives it a nutrient boost, which I read about later on a gardening blog. Has anyone else used weird kitchen leftovers on their plants?

My buddy killed a jade plant by overwatering it, but his next one thrived on coffee grounds. He'd just dump the cold leftovers from his French press right into the pot every few days. The thing got huge and woody, way bigger than mine ever did. He swore it was the acid and nitrogen, but I think he just finally learned to leave it alone.

My jade did the same with leftover coffee, @lisa_hill23. The grounds seem to help a lot with growth. It's probably a mix of the nutrients and better watering habits.

Doesn't it seem like plants do better when we just leave them alone a bit? Coffee grounds are great and all, but I think what really helps is that people stop fussing over the plant every single day. Once you find something simple that works, you quit checking the soil every afternoon and moving it around. It's the same way with my lawn - when I stopped overthinking it and just stuck to a basic routine, everything greened up way better than when I was trying every new trick.
