My neighbor's 'no water for succulents' advice killed my jade plant
Everyone in our local plant group swears by letting succulents dry out completely, so I didn't water my big jade for over a month last summer. The leaves got all wrinkled and fell off... it was a total loss. Has anyone else had a plant fail from following common advice too strictly?

Ugh, I've been there. I killed a cactus by trying to be a tough love plant parent.

Tough love is the only way with some plants. My jade plant got all droopy until I ignored it for a month, and now it's thriving. They need to learn to find their own water.

My neighbor did the same thing with a rosemary plant last spring. That kinda overcorrection seems to happen a lot across hobbies where we bounce from one extreme to another instead of finding the middle ground. It's like how people either overwater or completely neglect, maybe the real trick is just paying slow attention instead of making big dramatic moves.
