Just realized my choice between two orchid fertilizers was a big deal

I had to pick between a high-nitrogen mix for leaves or a bloom booster formula for my phalaenopsis. I went with the bloom booster because I really wanted flowers this year. After three months, the plant grew a ton of roots but only one small spike. Has anyone else seen this happen with bloom boosters on young orchids?

Been there with the fertilizer guesswork (it feels like a gamble sometimes). My younger phal did the exact same thing, putting all its energy into roots instead of blooms. It might just need a bit more time to mature before it can really use that bloom food. The good news is all those new roots set it up for a stronger show next year.

Totally agree about the gamble feeling! My first orchid did that for two whole years, just pumping out roots like crazy. All that growth really does pay off with an amazing bloom spike later on.
