Vent: That moment I realized I was automating the wrong stuff for my manager

For almost 8 months I was writing scripts to speed up our ticket responses, thinking I was helping the team. My boss kept praising the efficiency, but I noticed she was reassigning my tickets to other people. Then last Tuesday a coworker told me she was taking credit for my automation in her weekly reports. Has anyone else had a manager steal your shortcuts and pass them off as their own work?

Yeah I had something similar happen and it pissed me off too. What worked for me was I started documenting all the automation stuff in a shared team doc that had version history and timestamps. That way when my boss tried to claim my work I could just point to the doc showing I wrote it first. Also I started sending quick weekly updates to my manager's boss with just bullet points of what I automated that week. Nothing fancy, just "here's what I built and how much time it saved." It made it real hard for her to steal credit when the higher ups already knew what I was doing.
