The advice my first boss gave me about quitting backfired hard
Back in 2015 my manager at a software shop in Cleveland told me to never give notice until I had a signed offer, and I followed that to the letter, which felt smart at the time. But last spring I used that rule on a toxic boss, handed in my two weeks after signing, and he immediately called the new place to badmouth me, so the offer got pulled the same afternoon. Has anyone else had a boss weaponize your own caution against you, or is that just my luck?
