That 'open door policy' my old boss had was a trap door

My last manager at the auto parts warehouse swore he had an open door policy, but every time I walked in to flag a safety issue or a scheduling conflict, he'd twist it into evidence I couldn't handle the job. Last October I brought up a mislabeled brake kit that could've gone out to a customer, and he laughed and said, 'Sounds like you need more training, not more meetings.' After the third time that happened, I stopped knocking entirely and just handled things myself, which backfired when the district manager asked why I never escalated problems. Turns out the open door was just a way to collect complaints and use them against you in reviews. I got written up for a mistake I'd tried to warn him about two weeks prior. Has anyone else had a boss use your own proactive reports as ammunition?
