Six months ago my boss made me track every 15 minutes of my day
I used to have this micromanager who wanted a detailed log of every single task down to 15 minute chunks. I'd spend 45 minutes a day just filling out that spreadsheet. Now at my new job they only care if the project gets done by Friday. No one asks where I was at 2:17 PM on Tuesday. Has anyone else dealt with a boss who needed that level of detail?

Oh yeah, I had a boss like that once. She wanted a timestamp for every phone call and notes on what we talked about. It got to the point where I was fudging the times just to look busy. The crazy part is she never even looked at the logs, she just wanted them in case someone above her asked. A lot of times that kind of tracking is more about covering the manager's behind than actually helping you work better.

Yeah I read somewhere that these detailed logs are actually a sign of bad management, not good management. It's like they're so scared of losing control that they drown everyone in paperwork instead of just trusting them to do the job.
