Rant: my old boss gave 3 people the same raise in one week and thought we would not compare notes

Back in 2019 at a print shop in Dayton, our manager pulled each of us into his office one at a time and handed out a $0.40 raise like it was a secret prize. By Friday all 3 of us had the same number on our checks, and he acted shocked that we figured it out over lunch. What got me was that he had told each of us we were the only one getting it. I still wonder if he thought we would never look at each other's pay stubs. Did your old manager ever pull the same individual meeting trick about money?
