Rant: HR told me to just 'talk it out' with my micromanaging boss

I sat down with her for 45 minutes at the office in Denver, and she immediately wrote me up for 'insubordination' the next day. Has anyone else had HR give them garbage advice that backfired big time?

Oh wow, that's genuinely impressive... in a horrifying way. HR said "talk it out" so you did, and she hit you with a write-up for insubordination? That's like telling someone to pet a dog and getting bitten for it. Classic case of HR just passing the buck so they don't have to actually do their job. Oh man, that's exactly what happened to me last year. My boss told me to "clear the air" with a coworker who'd been leaving passive aggressive notes on my desk, so I walked over and asked if we could chat real quick. Next thing I know, I'm in a meeting with HR getting lectured about "creating a hostile environment" for confronting her publicly. It's like they set you up to fail so they can wash their hands of it. I printed out every single email where they gave me that advice and brought it to the meeting, but HR just said the instructions were "aspirational" not literal. Total garbage system that just punishes you for trying to follow their dumb rules.
