PSA: My old boss made us clock out for bathroom breaks

I worked at a call center in Cleveland for 2 years and our manager, Carol, timer-tracked our bathroom breaks. One day she emailed me saying I spent 47 minutes in the restroom that week and docked my pay. I started keeping a log of my breaks and found out she was rounding up every trip. When I complained to HR, they said it was policy. I quit 3 weeks later. Has anyone else dealt with micromanaging over stuff like this?

Ugh, the "47 minutes" part really gets me. That is just such a petty, insulting number to complain about. I had a supervisor who once printed out a list of everyone's "unproductive time" and it included the 8 minutes I spent walking to the break room to get my lunch from the fridge. Like, sorry I didn't bring a cooler to my desk. It's exhausting when you have to fight for basic things like using the bathroom or grabbing your sandwich. Good for you for keeping that log though, that's the kind of receipts you need when they start playing those games.

Right, like they want us to apologize for having basic human needs?
