My dispatcher in Amarillo screamed at me over the CB for taking a 30 minute break, so now I log every single stop
I drive long haul and back in March I was rolling through Amarillo when my dispatcher came on the CB yelling that I was late on a load. I had stopped for 30 minutes at a truck stop to eat and use the bathroom, which I am allowed to do. He told me I was stealing time and that he would write me up. I sat in that parking lot for a minute just staring at the dash. After that I started writing down every stop I make, the time I pull in and the time I pull out, in a little notebook I keep by the seat. Six months later he tried the same thing and I read him the exact times back. He went quiet and never brought it up again. I know a notebook sounds like nothing but it saved my butt more than once. Has anyone else had a boss who watches your clock like a hawk and tries to catch you slipping?
That line about staring at the dash really got me. What gets me is he only backed off once you had proof, not because he actually checked the rules about your break. That tells you the write up was never about being late, it was about him pushing to see what you'd take.
