My boss's 'open door policy' broke down last week over a broken chair

He always said to come to him with any problem, but when I asked for a replacement for my wobbly office chair, he said to 'just deal with it' and submit a formal request that takes a month. So much for open communication. Anyone else have a boss whose policies only work one way?

Honestly just submit the request and keep using the broken chair.

Yeah, just keep using it. I did that once. Chair leg was wobbly for weeks. Put in the ticket but didn't stop sitting in it. They finally replaced it the day it fully gave out. Got a brand new one without ever having to stand.
