My boss made me clock out for a 3 hour safety meeting last Tuesday
Last Tuesday in Phoenix my boss called a mandatory safety meeting at 9 AM. We all sat in the break room for almost 3 hours watching old training videos. Then he told us to clock out for that time because "it wasn't production work." I lost 3 hours of pay that day. The shop foreman said it happens every quarter but nobody fights it. Has anyone else dealt with a boss pulling this kind of time theft move?

My buddy's old boss tried something similar at a warehouse gig in Mesa. Told everyone they had to clock out for a "team building" talk that ran over lunch and then acted like it was normal. Whole crew filed a complaint with the labor board and they got back pay a few weeks later.

Are you sure it's always that big of a deal? I mean sometimes a manager is just bad at planning and not trying to cheat people. If the talk is quick and everyone gets their full lunch after, seems like a lot of drama over nothing. Plus the labor board has bigger fish to fry than a 15 minute meeting that probably saved time in the long run. Feels like people jump straight to lawyers before even talking to the boss about it. Not saying your buddy was wrong, but some situations are just stupid mistakes not theft.
