My boss expected us to work through lunch for 3 weeks straight

Last month at the accounting firm downtown, our manager told us we couldn't leave our desks for lunch until a big project was done. It went on for 3 weeks, and I was eating granola bars in front of my computer every day. When I asked about comp time, she just said it was part of the job. Has anyone else had a boss treat lunch breaks like they're optional?

That line about "it was part of the job" really got me. My friend Sarah worked at a marketing agency where her boss brought in a mini fridge and stocked it with "free" energy drinks and protein bars. Straight up told everyone they didn't need to take actual lunch breaks because the food was right there. That went on for two months before she quit. The worst part was when she asked if she could just step out for 15 minutes, he said she could eat while walking around the block. She said her back hurt from sitting so long and he just shrugged.

Honestly, "eat while walking around the block" is wild. My buddy had a boss who said the same thing and then got mad when he'd eat a sandwich while pacing the hallway.
