Got my boss to finally put a PTO request in writing, small victory after 2 years
My manager at the warehouse in Phoenix has a habit of saying "yeah sure, take Friday off" in person and then pretending it never happened. Last month I asked for a Monday off for a dentist appointment, he waved me off and said "we'll figure it out." I knew that meant nothing, so I sent him an email right after with the exact date and a line saying "just confirming you approved this." He never replied, but I printed the sent email and put it in my file. When payroll tried to mark me as a no-call no-show, I showed them the timestamp. They fixed it. That same week I watched two other guys get written up for the same thing because they trusted the verbal OK. Has anyone else had to start documenting everything just to get a day off without a fight?

Why would you need documentation when trusting your boss is what teamwork is all about?
