Finally chose not to cover for my boss's mistakes anymore

For months I had to decide between covering for my manager when he messed up orders or letting him face the consequences. Last week he blamed me for a $350 shipment error he made himself. I finally picked option B and showed the owner the email proof. Now my boss is furious but the owner backed me up and said I did the right thing. Has anyone else had to make that call between loyalty and honesty?

Betrayal always feels bad but covering for bad work just keeps the cycle going.

@emmasmith I used to think loyalty meant always covering for people but your post made me realize that real loyalty is helping them get better not hiding their mistakes. That cycle of covering just makes everything worse for everyone in the long run.
